Resident students of Bangladesh Kuwait Maitri Hall of Dhaka University have been protesting in the midnight against the decision of the hall administration. After receiving the assurance of the Vice-Chancellor, they returned to the hall.

On Tuesday (January 16) around 8 pm, the students started the movement inside the hall. Later around 9 pm, the students started protesting inside the main gate outside the Bangmata and Maitri Hall and on the street outside the hall gate. After that, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof ASM Maqsood Kamal gave them assurance. After receiving his assurance, the agitating students returned to the hall at half past two in the night.

It is learnt that the DU administration has identified the Sikdar Monwara building of Bangladesh Kuwait Maitri Hall as a ‘risky’ building. As a result, residential students are being removed from this building and allocated seats in the rooms of the main building. But the resident students of the hall are unwilling to accept this decision of the hall administration. As the reason for this, they said, already 6/7 people are living in the rooms of 4 people in the hall. Meanwhile, if the student comes from another building to the room, it will cause too many problems in the room. I am moving to avoid this problem.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal talking to the students of the hall said that after the earthquake, I myself visited the hall. Evacuation of female students from the vulnerable building is ongoing. A good solution will be found by talking to the hall administration. I will try to make a nice solution in a few days.

It should be noted that at this time the students discussed various problems with the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal.
