A ferry named Rajnigandha with a covered van and a pickup sank at Paturia Ferry Ghat in Manikganj's Padma. It is said that 6 people have been rescued alive in this incident so far.

There were a total of nine trucks in the sunken ferry, said Mohiuddin Russell, manager of the commercial department of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Aricha office.

Earlier, due to thick fog, the authorities stopped the ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route. On Tuesday (January 16), ferries were stopped from 1:30 am to avoid accidents in river area. At this time, Rajnigandha got stuck in the river.

Anwarul Islam said, at 8:16 in the morning, we got news that the Rajnigandha ferry with a covered van and a pickup had sunk at Paturia No. 5 Ferry Ghat in Manikganj. Later at 8:23 am Aricha fire station diver unit reached there and started working.

He said that a bulkhead rammed the ferry after not being able to see it in the river due to thick fog and it sank.

He also said that the diver unit from Siddique Bazar fire station of the capital has been dispatched to the spot.

He said, so far 6 people have been rescued alive.
