The students of the Jahangirnagar University held a press conference under the banner of 'Jahangirnagar against Oppression' to fulfill 5-point demands, including the withdrawal of the expulsion order of the two leaders of the expelled students' union and the speedy trial of those accused of rape and those who assisted in the escape.

The press conference was held at TSC's conference room at 12 noon on Thursday (March 7).

In a written statement at the press conference, Vice-President of the Students' Union JU Sangsad Ashfar Rahman Navin said that there is an allegation against the Provost of MH Hall and Rabindranath Hall for helping the accused Chhatra League leader to escape. But the University administration did not take any action against them. RAB's investigation revealed how Yaba traders consider JU halls as safe places for their business.

He also said in a written statement that BCL leaders run Yaba syndicates in batch-based universities. Even after knowing all these incidents, the University administration is not taking any action against them. However, two leaders of the student union were illegally expelled within three days for drawing graffiti.

The administration took two years to punish the bully and within three days expelled two students for painting 'anti-rape' graffiti. Another oppressor, Kafi, was among that inquiry committee.

He also said that regarding the ongoing housing crisis in the university, it can be seen that non-students are occupying rooms in the halls for years. And in fully residential Universities, batch after batch of students were tortured in common rooms and guest rooms. The program to brainwash them into tyranny continues. The administration has not taken any initiative to evict these non-students. No unnecessary building will be allowed without a master plan.

Their other demands are that the investigation committee should be established on the basis of the complaint against the administration of Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall and the Provost of Rabindranath Tagore Hall for helping the rape accused to escape. Drug trafficking syndicates should be eradicated from the halls of residence and all the students should be expelled from the halls as soon as possible. Apart from strengthening the security of the campus, disciplinary action should be taken against the Proctor and security wing subject to investigation and anti-sexual harassment cell should be implemented.

Besides, after the press conference, they announced a solidarity rally at the transport square from 3 pm on next Sunday (10 March).
