At least 15 people were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion in a residential colony of Kaliakoir in Gazipur.
The incident took place on Wednesday (March 13) at 6:30 pm in the residential colony owned by Shafiq Mia next to Topster Garments in Mouchak, Telirchala area of the upazila town.
The locals rescued the injured and sent them to the hospitals.
According to fire service and local sources, a gas cylinder exploded in a room of that colony soon after Iftar on Wednesday. 6 people in that room and next to it were seriously burnt. Later 9 more people were burnt while trying to rescue them.
At that time, local people rushed to rescue them and first took them to different hospitals around. But as their condition was serious, they were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The names and addresses of the injured were not available till this report was filed.
Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defense Abdullah Al Arefin confirmed about the incident and the injuries. He said that some people were injured in the gas cylinder explosion. They were rescued and sent to the medical center. The extent of damage was not known immediately.
