Police have arrested her classmate Amman Siddiqui and Jagannath University teacher and former Assistant Proctor Deen Islam in connection with the suicide of law student Fairuz Avantika.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman confirmed the truth of their detention on Saturday (March 16) night.

Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that they were kept under surveillance after the death of Avantika, a student of Jagannath University. They are currently in police custody.

Meanwhile, the students of Jagannath University (JnU) are outraged by Avantika's suicide. They gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the University administration to implement the six-point demand, including immediate trial of those responsible for the death.

It is to be noted that on Friday night (March 15), a student of law department of Jagannath University named Fairuz Avantika committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in Cumilla. She was a student of the Law Department 2017-18 session. In a Facebook post before her death, she blamed her classmate Amman Siddiqui and the University's Assistant Proctor Deen Islam for her death. After that, JnU students started a movement demanding justice for the incident.

However, denying this allegation, Amman Siddiqui wrote in a post given from his personal Facebook ID at around 2 pm on Friday, that two years ago, Avantika herself opened a fake account on Facebook and wrote false slanderous words against her classmates. Later, if she admitted the matter herself, ahe was also given a show cause notice from the Proctor's office. After that her father came on behalf of Avantika's family and gave a promise that his daughter would not do any such thing in future.

Amman attached the copy of GD, show cause notice, undertaking and screenshots of some messenger messages in this regard.

Accused Jagannath University teacher and former Assistant Proctor Deen Islam has claimed that he is not responsible for Avantika's suicide.
