Executive Editor of The Daily Star, Syed Ashfaqul Haque, has been given a dismissal notice as per the decision of the Board of Management. This notice will get effect immediately.

The Daily Star confirmed the information on Tuesday (April 2).

Syed Ashfaqul Haque joined the sports department of The Daily Star in 1993. After that, he has successively served as sports editor, joint news editor, news editor, chief news editor and finally as executive editor from 2019 till date.

Syed Ashfaqul Haque has been accused of killing Preeti by throwing her from the eighth floor of a multi-storied building in the Shahjahan Road area of Mohammadpur at 8:30 a.m. on February 6. Preeti's father Lukesh Orang have filed a case at Mohammadpur police station as plaintiffs against Syed Ashfaqul Haque (65) and his wife Tania Khondoker (47)for the death. The lawsuit alleges wrongful death.

A similar incident took place at Ashfaqul Haque's house on August 6 last year. A 9-year-old child domestic worker was seriously injured after jumping. The child's mother filed a case against Ashfaqul Haque, his wife Tania Khondoker and another woman named Shilpi at the Mohammadpur police station, alleging torture in the incident. That case is still ongoing.
