Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan has resigned in the face of student agitation. In such a situation, Md. Ashfaqul Islam has been appointed as the acting chief justice.
On Saturday (August 10) afternoon, the public relations officer of the Supreme Court Shafiqul Islam confirmed this.
Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam took oath as a judge of the Appellate Division on 8th December 2022. Before this, he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division on 27th August 2003. After two years, on 27th August 2005, he was permanently appointed as a judge of the High Court Division.
Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam was born on July 15, 1959 in Purba Khalilpur village of Harirampur upazila of Manikganj. His father's name is AKM Nurul Islam, mother's name is Jahanara Arju.
Meanwhile, 5 judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court have decided to resign. It is said that they will submit their resignation letter to the President by today.
The 5 judges of the Appellate Division who resigned are Justice M. Inayetur Rahim, Justice Abu Zafar Siddiqui, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Md. Shahinur Islam and Justice Kashefa Hossain.
