Dhaka: Interim Government Chief Adviser Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohammad Yunus in the meeting with the editors of different media of the country proposed to keep the term of the government between two to three years.
After the Chief Adviser's meeting, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told the media that last Saturday; the political parties discussed with the Chief Adviser and said that the interim government should remain for a reasonable time. Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, in response to the Chief Adviser, everyone has given the opinion that the minimum period is two years, so that the term of this interim government can be completed. Many said two to three years. But BNP does not want to give much time to this government in field politics. BNP said elections should be held after reforms within a reasonable time. The government should also provide the roadmap for state reforms and elections.
Jamaat-e-Islami, another main party in the field, said that it is not a specific time or a specific period. The constitutional and government agencies of the state should be quickly reformed and speedy elections should be arranged.
In this regard, the publicity secretary of the party Matiur Rahman Akand told Barta24.com that only 25 days have passed since the current interim government was in charge of the students' movement. We want this government to reform the Election Commission and the Administrative System to organize the elections soon.
On the question whether Jamaat will join forces with anyone in the polls, he said, nothing can be said at the moment. A decision will be made when the polls begin.
Meanwhile, after the student uprising an interim government was formed under the leadership of Dr. Yunus. Earlier, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said after the meeting of the political parties with the President at Bangabhaban, that now the interim government will be formed, this government will have to hold elections within three months.
Later on, all central leaders of the party backed away from this statement and demanded elections within a reasonable time, along with a roadmap for state reforms.
