Awami League presidium member and former shipping minister Shajahan Khan has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He was arrested from a house in the capital's Dhanmondi on Thursday (September 6) night.
DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the matter.
However, in which case he has been arrested, details will be given later, said the police officer.
Shajahan Khan was elected Member of Parliament from Madaripur-2 Constituency (a part of Rajoir-Madaripur Sadar) in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad Elections with the boat symbol. This was his eighth consecutive election as a Member of Parliament from the constituency.
Currently, Shajahan Khan is the presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League and the Executive President of Bangladesh Sramik Federation.
