Chief Adviser directed to find solution to traffic congestion

The Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus has ordered the police and experts from the country's elite Universities to find a solution to the traffic congestion in the capital Dhaka.

He held a meeting with top officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and traffic system experts of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) at State Guest House Jamuna on Monday (September 16).

In the meeting, the Chief Adviser said, "We have to reduce traffic congestion." A solution should be found immediately.

The meeting asked BUET experts to find some homegrown solutions with the help of their students on at least one traffic corridor. They are asked to fix the signaling system using local expertise. The DMP has also been directed to find some quick and effective solution to the traffic problem.

Professor Moazzem Hossain, Transport and Traffic System Expert of BUET gave a presentation in the meeting. He said that the country loses at least Tk. 40 thousand crore every year due to traffic congestion in Dhaka city alone.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Kh. Nazmul Hasan said the traffic situation continued to improve after more traffic police were deployed in recent weeks. Full deployment is expected by the end of next week.

In the meeting Special Assistant to Chief Adviser Lt. General (Retd) Abdul Hafiz, Professor Hadiuzzaman of Civil Engineering Department of BUET and DMP Additional Commissioner Farooq Ahmed also spoke.
