Dhaka: After the decision of the highest level, the export of hilsa to India has been approved for the greater interest, said Finance and Commerce Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.

He said this while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Sunday (September 22).

The Commerce Adviser said that the Ministry of Commerce has approved the export of hilsa to India only after the decision of the highest authority. It will not affect the country's market.

Those who take a stand against the export of hilsa are called "emotional". Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said that the hilsa being exported is not even equal to one day of Chandpur Ghat.

He said, export has a commercial advantage. Foreign currency earned. If not exported, smuggling increases.

Earlier, in a notification on September 21, the Ministry of Commerce said that on the occasion of Durga Puja, the export of 3,000 metric tons of hilsa has been approved subject to the fulfillment of the prescribed conditions in view of the application of various exporters. The concerned applicants are requested to apply with necessary documents to the Ministry of Commerce (Deputy Secretary, Export-2 Branch, Room No. 127, Building No. 3, Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh Secretariat) by 12 noon on September 24.
