Presenter Farzana Brownia has filed a fraud case against 5 people including Shyekh Siraj, the news Chief of private television channel I, for speaking against quota.
On Wednesday (September 25), she filed the case in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque took the statement of the plaintiff and ordered the CID to investigate the incident and submit the report by November 12.
The other accused are Zahiruddin Mahmud Mamun, Mukit Majumdar Babu, Abdur Rashid Majumdar Parvez and Riaz Ahmed Khan. She mentioned in the case that all the accused are involved in the politics of Awami League.
According to the complaint in the case, Farzana Brownia joined the job as Manager Marketing at Channel I with a salary of Tk. one lakh under the accused. She served as presenter and director of Swarna Kishori.
She was suddenly banned from the institution on October 11 for speaking on behalf of students during the quota agitation in 2018. When she protested verbally, the defendants said she would receive wages on a monthly basis until she was dismissed in writing.
As such, Brownia mentioned in the case that she is entitled to a total of Tk. 79 lakh for wages from October 2018 to September 2024. She also mentioned that when a legal notice was sent through the lawyer for the due amount, the defendants demanded a subscription of Tk. 50 crore from the plaintiff without any response.
