Due to heavy rains and onrush of hill water in Durgapur of Netrakona, the water level of Someshwari and Kangsha rivers have increased, but it is still flowing below the danger level. However, water has entered the villages along the river.

About 20 thousand people of Kullagarh, Gaokandia Chandigarh and Kakairgarh Union of upazila have become waterlogged due to the flood water. There is a shortage of fresh water in these areas.

Netrakona Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas visited these flooded areas on Saturday (October 5) afternoon. At this time she visited various villages of Kankairgara union of the upazila. Later, the district administration distributed dry food, rice and water purification tablets among hundreds of people in Rambari village.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rafikuzzaman, Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mustafizur Rahman, Durgapur Thana OC Saiful Islam were present at this time.

Meanwhile, the sources of the Water Development Board said that in the last 24 hours, 250 mm of rain has been recorded at Jaria Point in Netrakona and 186 mm at Durgapur Point.

According to the information of the Water Development Board till 6 pm on Saturday (October 5), the water of Udakhali River in Kalmakanda Upazila is flowing below the danger level of 32 cm at Dakbangla Point.

Also, the water of Someshwari, one of the main rivers of the district, is flowing below the danger level by 339 cm at Vijaypur point and 80 cm at Durgapur point.

In the east, the water level of Kangsha river has increased and is flowing below the danger level by 56 cm. Also, the water of river Dhanu has increased in Khaliajuri and is flowing below the danger level by 202 cm.

Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Sarwar Jahan said that rains are still continuing inside India. As a result, the water in the bordering rivers may increase slightly. But when the rain stops, the water in the river will also start to decrease. But till now almost all the rivers of the district are below danger level.

Meanwhile, according to local sources, several low-lying areas of Kullagarh, Gaokandia and Chandigarh of Durgapur Upazila have been flooded due to rainwater.
