The severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’, which is located in the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal, has moved further north-northwestwards and is currently located in the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal.
This information was given in the special bulletin number 9 of the weather service issued at midnight on Wednesday (October 24).
The bulletin said that at 6 am today (October 24), Cyclone ‘Dana’ was located 595 km. southwest of Chattogram Seaport, 555 km. southwest of Cox’s Bazar Seaport, 485 km. south of Mongla Seaport and 475 km. south-southwest of Payra Seaport. It may move further north-northwestwards.
The front of the severe cyclonic storm is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rains along with gusty or squally winds over the North Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh and its nearby islands and chars.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the centre of the severe cyclonic storm is 90 kmph, increasing to 110 kmph in gusty or squally winds. The sea is very rough in the area near the centre of the severe cyclonic storm.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to stay in safe shelter until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thundershowers with gusty winds in various parts of the country including the capital Dhaka in the next 72 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday (October 23).
The forecast for the next 24 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday says that rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds may occur at most places in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Along with this, moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at some places in the country. Day and night temperatures may decrease slightly across the country.
