Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah said that a dialogue has been held with BNP to reach a national consensus on the president removal issue.
He told reporters in front of the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, the capital, on Saturday (October 26) night after a meeting with BNP leaders.
In response to a question from journalists, Hasnat Abdullah said that discussions have been held with BNP leaders on three issues including the removal of the President, second independence, and elimination of fascism.
To a question about the removal of the President, he said that although no time limit has been set, discussions have been held on the fact that the President must go. Hasnat Abdullah said that BNP leaders have assured to discuss in their own forum and announce a decision.
Hasnat Abdullah said, we had called for national unity on October 23. The democratic parties that led us to overthrow Sheikh Hasina in the initial stage of the elimination of fascism in the mass uprising. The removal of President Shahabuddin has come before us as another obstacle to the elimination of fascism.
He said, BNP leaders have heard everything we said. They said they will discuss our message in the party forum. They will announce their decision later.
Hasnat said that they agreed on the issue of removing the president in the meeting with Jamaat. He said, we had a meeting with the Islamic Movement on the same issue. They also want the removal of the president from a moral point of view.
Hasnat Abdullah said that in the future, meetings will be held with the Democracy Forum, the 12-party alliance and the Gana Adhikar Parishad on these issues.
According to the BNP media cell, seven members of the Anti-Discrimination and Citizens' Committees participated in the meeting. However, while talking to the media after the meeting, the National Citizens' Committee convener introduced 9 people.
They are: Anti-Discrimination Student Movement convener Hasnat Abdullah, spokesperson Humaya Fatima, member secretary Arif Sohel, chief organizer Abdul Hannan Masud, coordinator Rifat Rashid, National Citizens Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwari, spokesperson Samantha Sharmin, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, and member Ariful Islam Adib.
