Babul arrested for illegal sand mining in Dhopajan

A special operation by the Sunamganj District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Babul Mia (45), who was illegally mining sand in the Dhopajan River.

Babul Mia was arrested in front of the Singer showroom under Sadar Police Station at 4:30 pm on Sunday (October 27). Babul Mia's home is in Bhadertek (Monipuri Hati) village under Bishwambharpur Police Station. He had been illegally mining sand in the Dhopajan Chalti River for a long time.

Besides, Babul Mia was involved in attacks on students and the general public protesting against discrimination in the student movement and had been providing financial support to the attackers. There are multiple cases against him in various police stations.

A press briefing was organized at Sunamganj Sadar Police Station at 9:30 pm today regarding the arrest. Sunamganj District Superintendent of Police A. F. M. Anwar Hossain Khan, PPM was present at the press briefing. He gave details about Babul Mia's arrest to the journalists present and answered various questions from the journalists.

At this time, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Zakir Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sunamganj Sadar Circle) Zahidul Islam Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Sunamganj Sadar Police Station Nazmul Haque and journalists from local print, electronic and online media were present.
