Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Muhammad Moinuddin Abdullah has resigned.
A senior ACC official confirmed that he resigned on Tuesday (October 29).
Commissioner Asia Khatun and Commissioner Zahurul Haque have also resigned.
After the political upheaval of August 5, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement gave an ultimatum to the Chairman, Commissioner and Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on August 13 to resign. On that day, the movement's coordinator Hasnat Abdullah wrote in a Facebook status, "Awami fascism's friends are still sitting in all commissions including the Election Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission and Law Commission. Secretaries of all ministries and heads of all commissions must be removed by today."
On March 3, 2021, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam signed the gazette appointing Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah by order of the President. Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah replaced Iqbal Mahmud. He was previously the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture.
When asked about the resignation, Moinuddin Abdullah said, "I will talk about this later. If you want to know anything, talk to the secretary." He then hung up the phone call.
According to the law, the ACC is formed with three commissioners. The term of the commissioners is five years. One of them is appointed as the chairman.
