Alleging that the ousted Awami League has displayed 'all the characteristics of fascism', the interim government's chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that the Awami League has no place in the country's politics for now.

The chief adviser made this comment in an interview with the British media Financial Times. The interview was published in the online edition of the newspaper on Wednesday (October 30).

Regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina to the country, Dr. Muhammad Yunus said in the interview that the interim government will not seek the extradition of Sheikh Hasina from India right now.

The Financial Times said that Dr. Muhammad Yunus probably made this decision to avoid the friendly relations between the two countries.

The newspaper quoted Muhammad Yunus as saying, “Even if it is for a short period of time, this party definitely has no place in Bangladesh. Awami League has no place in Bangladesh.”

He said, “The Awami League government has controlled the people in the last 15 years, used political parties and even controlled institutions to further its own interests.”

He also commented that no fascist party should exist in a democratic system.
