The oath-taking ceremony has been organized at 10:30 am in the conference room of the Secretariat. AF Hasan Arif, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Land, will administer the oath to him.
Dr. Shahadat is already in Dhaka with a large convoy to take the oath. 160 guests, including top BNP leaders and relatives of Mayor Shahadat, have been invited to the ceremony. In addition, top officials of the ministry and representatives of various organizations will be present.
27 guests, including top party leaders and relatives of the mayor, are attending the oath-taking ceremony, said Maruful Haque Chowdhury, personal secretary to Dr. Shahadat Hossain. He will take over as mayor on November 5 after returning from Dhaka."
On October 1, the Chattogram Election Tribunal declared Dr. Shahadat Hossain as the CCC mayor. The verdict was given in the context of a case filed seeking to cancel the results of the election held on January 27, 2021.
Then, on the night of October 8, the Election Commission (EC) administration branch issued a notification declaring Dr. Shahadat Hossain as the CCC mayor.
It was said that the Election Tribunal's order of October 1 annulled the declaration of the election of Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, the candidate with the 'boat' symbol, for the post of mayor in the CCC election and declared Dr. Shahadat Hossain, the candidate with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, as the elected mayor.
It was further written that in view of this, in the election results mentioned in the gazette of January 31, 2021, in column 1, against serial number 1, in column 2, ‘Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury’ was replaced with ‘Shahadat Hossain’ and in column 3, ‘Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP’ was replaced with ‘Bangladesh Awami League’.
