No matter how powerful the criminal is, he cannot be given amnesty under any circumstances, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He said that many times in the past, many powerful criminals used to get amnesty. That cannot be allowed to happen again.
He said these things after visiting the BGB headquarters in Peelkhana on Monday (November 4).
Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, as you know, we are changing almost all the police in Dhaka. But it will take time for them to know the alleys. It will take time for them to build their intelligence network. Many changes have also been made in the BGB. It is taking some time for this, but the situation is slowly improving. He also said that there will be more improvement in the future.
Stating that a bunch of instructions have been given to the BGB, the adviser said that it should maintain a cordial relationship with the people. Since the BGB has to work on the border, it has to maintain a good relationship with the people. It is easier to work only if it has a good relationship with the people. They are the ones who provide various types of help and cooperation.
In addition, emphasizing on preventing the entry of various 'illegal products' including phensidyl through the border, he said, you know that phensedyl and other drugs often come through the border. They should not come under any circumstances; they are causing a lot of harm to our nation.
When asked about the BGB's position on preventing Rohingya infiltration, he said, infiltration is prohibited. But there is a humanitarian aspect. You know that things are happening all day long in that belt. But they are sent back, not many Rohingyas can enter. We have 1.2 million Rohingyas, now it has become like 13 lakh. I do not deny that some are entering. I will send them back.
There will be a reinvestigation of the BDR killings and it must happen. An investigation team will be formed soon. Since many other things are happening, this too will happen. I cannot say what will happen. It will have to happen in one way or another.
