The portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been removed from the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, the President's office and residence.
Mahfuz Alam, adviser to the interim government, announced this in a post on social media Facebook at around 12 noon on Monday (November 11).
In the Facebook post, he said, "The portrait of the post-71 fascist Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been removed from the Durbar Hall. It is a shame for us that we could not remove his portrait from Bangabhaban after August 5." He wrote, expressing regret, "But as long as the July spirit remains within people, he will not be seen anywhere else."
Mahfuz Alam further wrote, "The Awami League must acknowledge and apologize for what Sheikh Mujib and his daughter did to the people of Bangladesh, starting from the undemocratic '72 constitution, including famine, laundering of crores of taka and extrajudicial killings of thousands of dissidents and opponents (72-75, 2009-2024). Only then can we talk about Sheikh Mujib before '71. There will be no compromise until an apology is made and the fascists are brought to justice."
