The BGB has detained 7 people including 2 Indian nationals after conducting a search operation on a speedboat carrying passengers from Chhotaharina to Rangamati at the Barkal Launch Ghat checkpost in Rangamati.

On Friday (November 15) afternoon, a search operation was conducted on a speedboat carrying passengers from Chhotaharina to Rangamati at the Launch Ghat checkpost under the Barkal Battalion (45 BGB). At that time, the BGB members detained 2 out of the 6 passengers on the speedboat when their behavior and speech seemed suspicious.

During interrogation, it was learned that the arrested persons are Suresh Chakma (39), son of Anjan Kumar Chakma, of Tripuraghat village under Dimagari police station in Lungle district, India, and Arangkhan Chakma (30), son of the deceased Jwalanta Kumar Chakma. They also said that they do not have any visa or passport. They illegally crossed the border through Thegamukh area and entered Bangladesh.

Later, two bags with them were searched and Bangladeshi cash worth Tk. 269,100 and 01 mobile phone were recovered from the bags. The recovered mobile phone belonged to Indian citizen Suresh Chakma and after reviewing the photos stored in the said mobile, the Election Commission of India ID card with his photo and his own Aadhaar card photo were found from him. In addition, 05 Bangladeshi citizens including the driver of the said speed boat were also arrested as accomplices of the Indian citizens.

The transfer process is under process at Barkal Police Station for taking legal action against the arrested Indian citizens and their accomplices Bangladeshi citizens.
