The police have arrested Abdur Rashid alias Chal Rashid, the owner of Rashid Agro Food Products Limited and President of Bangladesh Auto Major and Husking Mill Owners Association of Kushtia Khajanagar, the country's largest rice producer.
He was arrested from a lane in Mazampur area of Kushtia town around 5 pm on Saturday (November 16). Kushtia Model Police Station OC Shihabur Rahman Shihab confirmed the matter.
He was arrested in a case filed by Atiqur Rahman, owner of Inam Feed Mill in Rajshahi.
Abdur Rashid alias Chal Rashid is one of the top rice traders in the country and he is the owner of the country's rice syndicate. At his behest, the price of rice in the country rose. It is also known that there are several cases against him.
Atiqur of Rajshahi filed a case of embezzlement of Tk 1 crore 33 lakh 64 thousand 867 against Abdur Rashid.
In the case, Atiqur Rahman mentioned that Abdur Rashid is not giving any fish feed raw material or money after taking advance of Tk.1 crore 33 lakh 64 thousand 867 from me as his bank.
On September 17, the court issued an arrest warrant against him.
Kushtia Model Police Station OC Shihabur Rahman Shihab said that there was an arrest warrant against Abdur Rashid in CR 643/23 case. He was a warrant accused. Several financial institutions of the country, including Sonali Bank, Islami Bank, have filed 68 cases against Abdur Rashid and his family members for defaulting on loans. Since then he and his family members were in hiding.
