Chief Adviser to the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus will meet with ambassadors of 27 European Union (EU) countries on December 9.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rafiqul Islam said this at a weekly briefing on Thursday (December 5) afternoon.
He said that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will meet with 28 people, including ambassadors of 27 European Union countries and one more on December 9.
He said that the issue of trade and services will come up in the discussions with them. Climate change challenges, the Rohingya issue will also be prominent. Besides, there will be open discussions on the relations between Bangladesh and the UK.
Earlier, in his address to the nation on the occasion of the 100th day of the interim government on November 17, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that 27 ambassadors of the European Union are coming to Dhaka in the next few days.
Stating that world leaders have extended their support after the fall of the Awami League government in the student-public uprising, he said, "When I went to attend the United Nations General Assembly session in September, I had the opportunity to meet with the heads of government of many countries around the world, including the United States, the European Union, Canada, Italy, Holland, and the UN Secretary-General." The chief adviser said, "They spontaneously pledged their full cooperation to us. I also met with the heads of government of several neighboring countries, including Nepal, Maldives, and Pakistan." Dr. Yunus said, "After returning home, the ambassadors of these countries spontaneously met me in Dhaka and reiterated the commitment of their heads of government. They have started the work of preparing a new framework of support for us in a completely new way. The ambassadors who have offices in Delhi have come from Delhi to meet us." The chief adviser said, "20 ambassadors from 20 countries of the European Union live in Delhi. Seven ambassadors from seven countries are in Dhaka." A total of 27 ambassadors, including 20 ambassadors from Delhi, will come to Dhaka in the next few days to meet with me. He said, "Never before have 27 ambassadors from the European Union come together to hold discussions with the government. Such a large number of ambassadors from Delhi have come together to meet. This time, the reason for doing this is to express the EU's support and to build high-level cooperation in the economic field."
