Import and export at Bhomra land port in Satkhira is closed due to the blockade of the main road to India's Ghojadanga land port. Immigration activities are also closed. This has led to a standstill in the transport of goods and the crossing of passengers.

Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and BJP MLA Shuvendu Adhikari called for the blockade on Tuesday (December 10) demanding a ban on trade between the two countries over allegations of atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh.

According to sources at Bhomra land port, an average of 250 trucks of goods are imported and exported through this port. Currently, stones, rice and onions are being imported the most. Juice, cooking oil and garments are being exported in small quantities.

Dipankar Ghosh, a businessman at Bhomra Land Port, said that the opposition leader of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly had called for a blockade of Ghojadanga on Tuesday demanding a ban on imports and exports with Bangladesh. As part of this, a rally was held on the main road in Ghojadanga. As a result, import and export activities at Bhomra Land Port were stopped.

Meanwhile, India-bound passengers coming from far and wide are also in trouble due to the closure of immigration activities.

Abed Ali of Patkelghata said in this regard, I was not aware of the news of the blockade of Ghojadanga. That is why I came. When I came to Bhomra, I found that immigration was closed. There was no way but to return.

Ahidul Islam, president of the Importers and Exporters Association of Bhomra Land Port, said, I hope the blockade will be lifted in the afternoon. Maybe then import and export activities will start.
