The recommendation to make Faridpur and Cumilla administrative divisions will be made, said Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Member Secretary of the Public Administration Reform Commission.
He gave this information during a view-sharing session with journalists at the conference room of the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday (December 17).
Currently, there are eight administrative divisions in Bangladesh. Some parts of neighboring districts may also be merged with the proposed Faridpur and Cumilla divisions.
Dr. Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman said, after reviewing the map of the entire country, we have agreed to recommend division of Faridpur and Cumilla. The government can implement this recommendation if it wishes.
It is noteworthy that during the Awami League government, an initiative was taken to upgrade these two districts into two divisions, but it was not implemented. The proposal to create this new division was raised again in the cabinet meeting last November, but it was not implemented due to the economic downturn.
He said the commission does not see the need to maintain the current structure of the education and health cadres. Instead, the commission will propose the formation of separate organizations to manage these two important sectors.
Responding to a question from journalists, he said that education and health are two very important sectors for the people. The commission is considering the issue of increasing special benefits for professionals working in these sectors, but the final decision will depend on the government.
