Chief Adviser to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has left Dhaka to attend the 11th D-8 summit in Cairo, Egypt.
The flight carrying the Chief Advisor left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Egypt at 1:20 am on Tuesday (December 17).
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, gave a briefing on contemporary issues at the Foreign Service Academy. Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Faiz Ahmed were also present at the briefing.
The Deputy Press Secretary said that apart from Bangladesh, heads of government of several other countries will attend the D-8 summit. These include representatives from Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, the Education Minister of Malaysia and a high-ranking official from Nigeria.
He also said that the theme of the D-8 Summit to be held in Cairo is 'Investing in Youth and Supporting Small Medium Enterprises, Shaping Tomorrow's Economy'. This conference highlights the importance of the organization on youth and SME issues for the future economy. That is why the conference is very important for Bangladesh. The Chief Adviser is going there to work on the global conference on our youth. How Bangladesh can be used in the SME sector, those issues will be discussed here.
It is known that the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8. The organization was established for mutual development cooperation between Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
Dr. Yunus will be accompanied by Iranian President Masoud Pajhwok, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, where he is scheduled to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
