The country’s new government will be installed in the US Senate on January 20. The change will not have any impact on Bangladesh’s relations with the US, said Md. Towhid Hossain, the foreign affairs adviser to the interim government.

He is going to visit China on January 20. He expressed this opinion in response to a question from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (January 15).

In response to a question on whether the interim government is in contact with the new US administration, Towhid Hossain said, Bangladesh’s relations with the US or such big countries will not be government-specific. We will see if the new government comes and they may have some statements. There is nothing to speculate about. It does not matter when I would go to China. I think that relations with Bangladesh will not stumble due to the change of government in the US. We think that it will run smoothly.

Referring to a flowing trend in relations, the adviser said, “Our relations with three countries, India, China and the US, are very important.” We will definitely maintain a balanced relationship. We do not want to displease anyone. But we will maintain relations with them to protect our own interests.

Regarding this, the foreign affairs adviser will go to China on his first bilateral visit on January 20. After the visit, he will return home on January 24.
