Korean company is the consultant of Paira Seaport

Dhaka: Government has appointed Kul Hua Engineering Ltd. of the Republic of Korea (ROK) as the consultant of the first terminal and its related infrastructure of the dream project of Southern Bengal of the country. The Korean company will perform the design, construction supervision and connecting roads with bridges of the port at an estimated cost of Taka 89 crore 52 lakhs along with advising the government regarding the construction.

In a meeting of the purchase committee held on Wednesday (March 13) at the meeting room of the cabinet committee the proposal was approved. The meeting was presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal as the convener of the committee. The meeting was also attended by cabinet secretary, secretary of the concerned ministry and high officials.

After the meeting the Minister while briefing the waiting journalists told that Paira Seaport is our dream project and also the government’s first track priority project. After implementation of the project, our Padma bridge and the Padma railway will be highly benefitted. The people of South Western Bengal will be immensely benefitted because their economic condition will take a new turn towards prosperity.

The Minister said that many industries will grow in the area almost similar to Chattogram. The Minister said we will be able to contact neighboring India, Nepal, Bhutan and even China because this port.

He told that the Korean company Kul Hua Engineering Company will work as the consultant of the port. The company will take Taka 89 crore 52 lakhs as the consultancy fee. He informed that the work on the project has already started. For better implementation we have appointed the consulting company.

When inquired that how much time it will take for its full implementation, he replied that it is a big project so it will take at least 5 to 7 years. Thousands of people will be engaged here, he added.

It is learnt that in on November 18, 2013 the work of setting the port had started on 16 acres of land. The project is located on western bank of Bamnabad river of Tiakhali union under Kolapara upazilla of Patuakhali district. 

The work will be done in three phases with the target of completing it within 2030 at an estimated cost of 15000 crore US dollar.

When the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the construction of Paira Sea port the neglected and financially backward people started to dream a better life with enormous economic activities.
