1971 genocide survey report disclosed

Dhaka,(Barta24.com): During the great liberation war of 1971 there were 5121 genocide incidents in 20 districts of the country. In each genocide five to one thousand people were killed by the occupation Pakistani army.

The information was revealed in a survey of Genocide-Torture Archive and Museum Trust.

In a seminar on ‘Genocide- Killing spot and Mass grave’ organized by Genocide-Torture and Freedom struggle affairs research center at Shamsur Rahman auditorium of Bangla Academy on Friday(March 22). The report of the survey was formally disclosed in the seminar.

It was told in the seminar that there were 404 killing spots, 502 mass graves and 547 torture cells in 20 districts. The districts are Nilphamari, Narayanganj, Bogura, Natore, Kurigram, Pabna, Rajshahi, Satkhira, Bhola, Khulna, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Narail, Panchagar, Mowlovibazar, Jashore, Lalamonirhat, Brahmanbaria, Cox’s bazaar and Barisal.

The summery of the survey report was presented by Archive and Museum Trust president Professor Dr. Muntasir Mamun. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ministry K.M Khalid was the chief guest while the secretary of the Ministry Dr. Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal was special guest in the seminar as it was chaired by Dr. Muntasir Mamun.

The chief guest said, ‘I am an eye- witness of genocide in Mymenshing where a large number of people were killed but how many freedom loving patriots were killed is still unknown to me. Still some killing field and mass grave are traced. The work taken up by the trust will help inform the new generation to know about the history of genocide and sacrifice of the people in the great liberation war.

For this purpose we are setting up genocide museum at Khulna.

An website ‘www.genocidemuseumbd.org was inaugurated in the seminar to inform the true history of genocide and liberation war.

Secretary of the Ministry Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal said that, ‘The subject of today’s seminar is connected with our existence as well as with our root. We have made a bit late in searching that root. Had it been more late then it could not be recovered. In that case we would not have got these people who are now working on it. They are the living witness of genocide and living history.’

In his presidential address Dr. Muntasir Mamun said, ‘We do not know the history of liberation war sufficiently. The true history does not reflect if we forget the stories of genocide and torture. If there is no liberation war, there is no Bangladesh.’

In the seminar inserting the survey report in ‘AGPS SURVEY GOOGLE’ at the government patronizing was demanded. The speakers also called upon the government for international recognition of genocide in the liberation war. In the beginning of the seminar unveiling of the cover pages of 10 volumes of survey book on Genocide-Mass Grave –Killing Spot took place.
