Dhaka,(Barta24.com): Rajdhani Unnayan Kotripakkha (RAJUK) sought 15 days of time to verify and find out the defects of multistoried buildings in the capital which are facing frequent accidents.
Rajuk chairman Abdur Rahman while talking to journalists told this at Banani FR tower site last night that within 15 days Rajuk will find out what are the defects of the multistoried buildings built as per the 1996 Building code. The findings of that investigation will be published to media.
Abdur Rahman said that the FR tower was built as per the Building code of 1996. The construction was hundred percent completed before 2006-07. The investigation committee will look that whether it followed the Building code properly. Necessary actions will be taken according to recommendations of the investigation committee.
When asked the chairman that why the multistoried buildings of Banani were built in so close proximity side by side, he said that at that time there was no provision of ‘side back’. But the provision of ‘side back’ was included in the Building code of 2008. Through following the code, the investigation would try to indentify the defects within 15 days of time. We want to confirm the fire safety system.
When asked It has been revealed that the building was built seeking approval of 18 story, but in reality it was extended vertically to 23 story without official approval. The Rajuk chairman told that we got the approved design for 18 floors but we also got another unapproved design for 23 floors which has no basis.
When asked the chairman that whether the extended vertical portion of FR tower will be demolished, he informed that a team of BUET expert will start investigation from tomorrow. We will follow their recommendation regarding demolishing or any other even whether the building is usable.
When alleged that the approval was given in exchange of money not following proper system that resulted in the killing of 25 people. He replied that there is no scope to avoid the responsibility of Rajuk.
