Police hunts Rupayan group chairman

Dhaka, (Barta24.com): Police is hunting the chairman of Rupayan group, the builder company of the Fire ravaged F.R. tower at Banani where 25 people were killed and about 70 were wounded on last March 28 when a devastating fire caught the 23 storied building.

Rupayan chairman Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul is one of the accused in the case filed by police. The other accused are the land owner SMHI Faruq, Tazbirul Islam, BNP central committee member and also the proprietor of Quasem dry cell. There are some more accused in the case.

According to official sources, approval for 18 storied  was taken from Rajuk but later on Tazbirul islam illegally built the rest five floors. The developer company without any safety measures handed over and sold the various floors of the multi storied building.  

According to experts, had the building would have been built according to the original design and plan approved by Rajuk having safety measures including the fire safety the there might not any loss of lives. Moreover the unapproved five floors made the situation more worse, the experts said. 

To ensure a transparent investigation and to bring the culprits under the law, Sub Inspector of Banani police out post Milton Dutta filed the case. Next the case was transferred to DB.

DB police so far arrested SMHI Faruq and Tazbirul Islam but Rupayan chairman is still on run.  Intelligence sources said that Liaquat Ali Khan Mukul is hiding abroad.

DB(North) ADC Shahjahan Saju told Barta24.com that police is hunting Rupapyan chairman but probably to avoid arrest he fled the country.

Additional Police Commissioner and DB chief Abdul Baten told that, the developer company committed a number of irregularities and ignored the law of the land. The company did not follow the building code which was violated drastically. They failed to ensure the safety measures  particularly the exit door during any emergency.
