PM stresses on the safe return of the Rohingyas

Dhaka, (barta24.com): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated her call to Myanmar to arrange a safe return of the Rohingyas to their own country as soon as possible.

Prime Minister said, “It will be good for every body when the safe return of the Rohingyas will ensured.”

On Tuesday (April 2) she said this when the newly appointed High Commissioner of UK Robert Chaterton Dicson made a courtesy call with the Prime Minister at Gono Bhavan.

After the meeting was over PM’s Press Secretary Ehsanul Karim Helal while briefing the waiting journalists said that both Bangladesh and UK have agreed for the safe return of displaced Rohingyas of Myanmar.

The Prime Minister informed the British High Commissioner that her government is taking all necessary steps for the rehabilitation of the Rohingyas when the High Commissioner pointed out his experience about the painful condition in the camps.

Sheikh Hasina informed the High Commissioner that the number of Rohingyas is huge and meanwhile 40 thousand babies were born to them. They have exceeded the number of the local population of Cox’s Bazar.

Sheikh Hasina stresses on the implementation of Kafi Anan report and she mentioned the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Bangladesh and Myanmar on Rohingyas repatriation.

The British High Commissioner praised the recent socio-economic development of Bangladesh and mentioned that the ‘Bangladeshis have become more self-confident’.

Robert Chaterton said that there are huge possibilities in the Bangladeshis and the English people want to work with them particularly in the fields of climatic change and socio-economic development. Robert Chaterton Dicson mentioned that the next Climate Summit 2020 will be held in London and his government wants to work together with Bangladesh. The High Commissioner disclosed that the British business men are interested to invest in Bangladesh.

During the discussion PM informed that we have set up special economic zones along with incentives for attracting local and foreign investments.

Sheikh Hasina said that Britain and Bangladesh have very good bilateral relations and we want to strengthen the existing relation.

The Prime Minister mentioned the initiatives of her government in the expansion of the export sector and said that we want to enhance the number of export items by diversifying it. She also mentioned the various social safety net works of her government taken for the welfare of the poor.

Secretary of the Prime Minister’s office Sazzadul Hasan was present at that time.
