Sheikh Hasina inaugurates new BGMEA complex

Dhaka, (Barta24.com): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the newly built complex of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in Uttara on Wednesday (April 3) through video conferencing from Gonobhavan.

In the inaugural function a video of BGMEA complex was displayed. BGMEA sources said that the work on the 13 storied complex having two towers are going on fast. Meanwhile five floors including the basement have been completed.

The complex with a floor measurement of 40 thousand square feet is being built at Uttara lake side on 5.5 acres of land.

In this complex there are arrangements of modern solar panel, generator, rain water harvest system, deep tube wells, modern fire extinguishing system in every floor. There are three auditoriums, swimming pool, health club, coffee shops, cafeteria-restaurant, 40 thousand sft. exhibition hall and facilities of two hundred car parking.

It may be mentioned that BGMEA crossed a long legal battle over the old BGMEA building which was built without any right on land and which was hampering the natural flow of water at Hatir Jheel. BGMEA fought up to the Highest Court of the country but failed to secure the court verdict in their favor. Finally they committed to shift their complex before April 12 of current year.

In the inaugural function among others Prime Minister’s private sector affairs adviser Salman F. Rahman MP, former president of BGMEA Abdus Salam Murshedi were present at Gonobhavan end while BGMEA leaders including BGMEA president Anowarul Islam Chowdhury Parvez addressed the function at the under construction side. Prime Minister’s Secretary Sazzadul Hassan conducted the video conferencing.
