Dhaka,(Barta24.com): Like previous years Trading Corporation of Bangladesh(TCB) is out to be active with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, though in other times they are not found to be functioning.
Like past years TCB will sell five types of goods weighing about eight thousand tons in the coming Ramadan.
According to TCB sources, during the month of Ramadan, the price of essentials usually goes high making it out of the reach of the poor. Under these circumstances, to ensure justified price TCB plays very important role for the poor consumers. TCB procures essential commodities throughout the year and sell those goods during Ramadan. For this reason for actual price the demand of TCB goods is very high.
The preparation of TCB in procuring consumer goods is at the fag end. Meanwhile the stock of gram, pulses, edible oil, sugar and date fruit has become eight thousand metric tons in TCB godowns. Of the procured goods, the quantity of gram is 1500 metric tons, date fruit is 100 metric tons, edible oil 2500 mts. Sugar two thousand mts and pulses 1000 metric tons.
But TCB is yet to fix the price of any goods. TCB will fix the price observing market price and the ability of the purchasers, said TCB sources.
The officials of TCB informed that before ten days of Ramadan TCB will start selling goods.
TCB spokesman Md. Humayun Kabir told Barta24.com that the preparation of TCB is at the final stage. Besides our appointed dealers we will sell commodities on open trucks like past years. However, the price of goods and the date of inception of selling are yet to be fixed. The decision for this will be taken soon.
During Ramadan TCB goods will be sold by 2827 dealers. The consumers will get goods at 187 fixed places. Of them 35 places in Dhaka, 10 places in Chottagram, and five places in each division.
TCB was founded in 1972. But in the eighties due to free market economy the role of TCB became squeezed. However, after realizing the necessity of government initiatives, in free economy the TCB started functioning to make the economy more dynamic and stronger.
