Dhaka,(Barta24.com): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina criticized the useless rush of the curious people creating obstacles to the Fire men while they were dousing the fire of Banani F.R Tower. She commented that without making useless rush or taking selfie they should have extended help to extinguish fire even with a bucket of water.
In the central Committee meeting of Bangladesh Awami League held at Gonobhavan on Friday (April5) she told this. Before starting of the meeting the Prime Minister prayed for the salvation of departed souls killed in the fire accident.
She said that a short time back the multi-storied building caught fire in Banani. The firemen rushed to the spot but a big rush of curious people obstructed the road causing delay to start rescue operation. Being excited few people beat up the fire men even they damaged a fire van worth Taka 9 to 10 crore. So this is unfortunate, she told.
This is not proper to behave with the rescue people rather they should extend help and cooperation to the people engaged in rescue operation to speed up the rescue work that could help saving more lives.
Prime Minister stressed the need for changing our mentality so that we can help a man in danger.
However, she praised some members of the public who worked sincerely with the trained people of Fire department.
She also called upon the media to play more responsible role in such incidents. When the media make live telecast then the curiosity of the people increases making more rush of the people to the site.
In fire extinguishing operation the paucity of water is a great problem. There is no water body now in the city as before.
Though there is enough water of WASA which is used in emergency work. There was a time when Gulshan Lake was a big water body but now it has become small due to construction of residential buildings.
She further said that when Ziaur Rahman came to power the Gulshan lake was occupied by his men while Banani has now become BNP Polli, she mentioned.
She asked the building owners to keep water body near their house which can be used in case of emergency.
