Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for creating awareness through wide publicity for disaster management and also about what to do during calamities.
At the national level as well as following each organization’s measures it will have to do. In any disaster it needs wide publicity to the make the people aware. This will help minimize the loss, she said.
On Thursday(April18) at the PMO Sheikh Hasina told these in the meeting of the national disaster management council.
Regarding her experience in tackling disaster she told that,” disaster is coming to our country again and again and we are successfully handling it resulting minimum losses. Sixteen crore people are living in such a small country. I doubt whether the developed countries of the West could handle such disaster had they such a large sized population,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said that modernization gives us facilities, comfort but there are risks also. She said, “use of electricity, gas cylinder, even using any combustible equipments, people must be aware of it so that the risk is minimum.”
She also told the concerned people to do routine exercise of the disaster management affairs and find out necessary ways and means to handle it properly.
She also advised to increase the number of improved equipments for facing disaster and called for making the people mental preparation to handle it through training and publicity.
Sheikh Hasina said that it is not proper that we will jump on it when disaster comes rather we should also take preventive measures and taking necessary planning for its implementation.
