Government is firm to save people from ‘Fani’

Dhaka, (Barta24.com): Disaster Management & Relief State Minister Dr. Enamur Rahman told that the government this time is following most updated model in tackling as well as determining the losses slapped by the on going severe cyclonic storm Fani. We will not allow any damage to human lives.

On Friday (May 3) the state Minister was talking to the journalists at his secretariat office about the latest position of Fani and its related matters.

Dr. Enamur told that our 4071 shelter centers are completely ready to accommodate Fani affected people. Shifting of the affected people has already started and it is going on still. In this shifting duty Awami League, Jubo League, Shechchasebak League, Armed Forces, coast guard, red crescent and CPP are working collectively. Before evening the shifting will be completed. We have sent directions that none is left behind.

Reagrding cattle heads and poultry the State Minister informed that those will be also shifted as far as possible. Priority will be given to milking cows. We have attached on the shifting of challenged people. Pregnant women and the milking mothers are also given importance so that no damage occurs to them. Solar system will remain on.

Regarding relief Dr. Enamur said that we have sent 200 tons of GR rice to each Deputy Commissioner(DC) of the affected districts and 41 thousand packets of dry food. Each dry packet will help run a family for a week. Each DC was sent taka 10 lakh in cash. There will be 30 trucks of mountain saline water ready as pure drinking water.

Dr. Enamur said that there is a fear of damage of standing crops on 11 thousand hectares in Khulna –Satkhira zone due to the impact of Fani. If there is tidal bore with the height of 4 feet to 5 feet with wind blowing at a speed of 180 to 200 kilometers per hour then we will be in a difficult position to save crops though we have been able to save human lives.

In the press conference Liberation Affairs Minister AKM Mojammel Haque, Parliamentary standing committee president on Disaster Management & Relief Ministry AB Tazul Islam and the principal secretary of the Prime Minister Nazibor Rahman were present.
