Three day National Tagore festival begins at Shilaidah

Kushtia: In connection with the 158th birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore a three day National Tagore Festival begins today at Shilaidah under Kumarkhali upazilla of this district. In the three day festival discussion on the life and works of the poet, cultural functions and Rabindra fair will be held.

On Wednesday(May 8) with the assistance of the Cultural Ministry the district administration of Kushtia in the open dais, the festival was formally inaugurated by Member of Jatiyo Sangdsad(Kushtia-1) Advocate AKM Sarwarjahan Badsha.

The inaugural session was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Kushtia Md. Aslam Hossain while it was addressed among others by Director-2 of Prime Minister’s office Wahida Musarrat Anita, Additional police super of Kushtia KM Jahirul Islam and Kushtia town Awami League president Taizal Ali Khan. The welcome address was delivered by UNO of Kumarkhali Razibul Islam Khan. The memorial speech was delivered by Professor Dr. Sarwar Murshed Ratan.

The speakers told the function that,”everything will be lost in the ocean of time but the creative works and literary works of the great men will remain alive. So we need the vision of Tagore today.” The speakers also informed the function that there is initiative of the government to make Shilaidah more attractive. The cultural session begins with the National Anthem and invitation song of Tagore sung by the students of Kushtia Government Girls High School. In the function the guests were given memento crests on behalf of the district administration.

From the very morning of Wednesday the Kuthibari premises was resounded with the presence of the Tagore lovers both local and also from abroad.  The Tagore lovers went around the Bakultola of Kuthibari, on the bank of the pond and mangoegroves of Kuthibari. It has become a rejoining fair with the celebration of Tagore birth anniversary. The fest will continue till Baishakh 27(May 10).
