Accounts submission time extended for a month by EC

Dhaka: The Election Commission(EC) has sent letters to the  registered 38 political parties including BNP informing that the time of submitting income –expenditure accounts of 11th Jatiyo Snagsad poll has been extended for another one month.

The letter signed by deputy secretary of EC Md. Abdul Halim has fixed the last date of submission as on June 9(Sunday).

Md. Abdul Halim has confirmed it to Barta24.com and said that the parties who are yet to submit the expenditure incurred in 11th national poll were given one month time. Next they will be given another 15 days time and If they fail to submit the accounts within that time frame then the EC can take any action against them even can cancel their registration.

It is learnt from EC sources that none but ruling Awami League has so far submitted the accounts within the stipulated time.

It is said in the section 44 CCC of Representation of People’s Order(RPO) that each political party will submit their election expenditure within the next 90 days of the election.

In section 44 D it is said that if any political party fails to submit within 90 days, they may be given one month time more. After that if any party fails to submit accounts then the EC can impose a fine of Taka 10 lakh with a note of warning along with extension of another 15 days time. If any party even fails then the Commission is in a position to cancel the defaulter parties’ registration.

Earlier on last Wednesday(May 8) BNP sent a letter to EC seeking one month time for submission of election expenditure. The letter was sent on behalf of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir which was carried to EC by a three member delegation.

In the 11th Jatiyo Sangsad election held on last December 30 all the registered political parties took part in the election. As per law no party except Awami League submitted the election expenditure to EC within the stipulated last date March 31.
