Dhaka: Law minister Anisul Haque said that there is no bar to report in the media on the under trial cases in the courts. He explained, ‘a trial proceeding is going on, there is no bar in reporting about the case. But there is a case in the court which is not under trial then you cannot give any opinion on that case. You should refrain from giving opinion about that pending case.’

On Sunday (May 19) in reply to a question of the press men in the conference room of Law ministry the Law Minister told this. The Minister clarified the notification of the Registrar of the Supreme Court which told that reporting cannot be done on the under trial cases.

The Law Minister said that there is a term sub judicial which means a case which is under trial. The Minister said that the High Court has told about those  cases which are in the court but there is no proceeding of the case. The Supreme Court has asked to stop reporting on such cases.

The Minister said that if you report or give your opinion in the media on those pending case then a trial is done in the media. That may influence the court and pressure might be created on the judge concerned. For this reason the Supreme Court published that notification.

He further said that,’ reporting and putting opinions is different and must think it differently. Case is under trail, you are at liberty to report on it. But refrain from giving opinions on the pending cases.’
