Brokers are active to traffick out Rohingya women

Young Salima Khatun, 19 allured by the brokers was being sent to Malaysia. She was being taken in the greed of marriage there. But on their way the broker ring pushed them into the deep sea water in Nuniachara area along with 9 other Rohingyas. They have returned from that place.

On Monday (May 20) these women were detained by Cox’s Bazar Sadar police. Salima later informed the police about this story. She is the daughter of late Amanullah of Leda Rohingya camp. Among 7 brothers and sisters she is the second. She has more two young brothers.

More to be detained Azimullah, 21 son of Dulu Hossain of Thangkhali camp no. 12. He was also allured out to provide good job in Malaysia.

The law enforcing authorities claimed that during last week about three hundred Rohigya people enroute to Malaysia were detained by them. On the night of May 17 the police and coast guard in separate raids arrested 84 Malaysia bound male, female and even children. Of the detained there were six brokers also.

Earlier 29 from Hoanok of Maheshkhali upazilla, 14 from Kalamarchara, in separate raid 20 from Baharchara of Teknaf, 34 from Daria nagar of Cox’s Bazar and 17 from Nuniachara of Cox’s Bazar town were detained. Though some are being detained by the law enforces but many got slipped away to foreign land.

Learnt from several reliable sources that a number of human trafficking gang are active near the Rezu bridge area of Marine drive road of Cox’s Bazar. Under the leadership of six brokers of that ring the Rohingyas are being trafficked to foreign lands.

On last Friday (May 17) night in the detaining incident of Rohingyas, police have identified 11 brokers. Of them six are of Ujantia area. They are Md. Tipu, Abdul Ghani, Md. Mansur, Mijbahuddin, Jasimuddin and Abdul Kader.

Coastguard has detained five brokers in the incident of trafficking Rohingays from Saint Martin to Malaysia. The detained brokers are Amin Sharif, 27 of Kutubjom of Cox’s Bazar, Muhiuddin, 51 of same area, Abdul Khalek, 30, Shawkat Akbar,45 of Rashid nagar Sikdar para of Ramu upazilla and Md. Mobarak of same area.

In both incidents case were filed under human trafficking law.

Salima Khatun detained by police told Barta24.com that for the last few days the brokers made us convinced that there will be no problem we would manage to cross the sea. They took Taka 5 thousand from each of us. But suddenly after pushing us into deep water they fled away. Police caught us when we reached the shore after much trouble.

Detained Azimullah told Barta24.com that the brokers took Taka 6 thousand from me to go to Malaysia. Then they after taking me in a boat from the bridge site threw me in the sea water. After swimming I reached to the shore. Now I like to return to camp and will not do the same mistake again.

The police team leader of the raid sub inspector Dipak Kumar told Barta24.com that we rescued 10 Rohingyas including woman. They were picked up by the brokers from Ukhia camp and dropped at Nuniachara coast.

On the other hand learnt from local and police sources, the top identified human traffickers of Nuniar chara are Syed Karim and Mohammad Karim sons of Samsu Majhi, Abu Bakkar son of Gura Mia and Zafar Alam Shipon son of late Hossain of Natun Baharchara. Many people were trafficked out by them. There are several cases pending against them.

There are allegations that these broker rings have become active again. The victims have reached Nuniarchara with their help.

Officer in Charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station Fariduddin Khondoker told Barta24.com that when ten Rohingya people were being shipped to Malaysia illegally they were arrested. A local human trafficking group is involved with this incident. After proper investigation cases will be filed against them.

The Police Super of Cox’s Bazar ABM Masud Hossain told Barta24.com that as there is no boundary wall of the camps the Rohingyas are easily leaving the camps. Applications will be sent to the concerned authorities to build boundary walls around the camps.
