Road Transport & Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader informed that the movement of all trucks, lorries and covered vans will remain suspended on highways three days before the Eid ul Fitr.
In a meeting held at the new building of BRTA office at Banani in connection of ensuring the home goers’ journey safe and hassle free the Minister told this.
However the vehicles carrying the daily essentials and perishable goods will remain outside the purview of the restriction. One vigilance team each at Gabtali, Mahakhali and Syedabad has been formed to check the vehicles whether those are carrying excess passengers, goods and on the roof of buses.
Obaidul Kader said that though the holiday makers would not feel comfortable but would feel safe. He also requested the transport workers and owners to abide by the discipline on the roads. If the vehicle do not observe discipline then four lane or fly over will not come into use.
The Minister also directed the concerned so that the defective and worn out vehicles do not move on the roads.
The Chairman of safe road campaign film actor Iliash Kanchon was also present in the meeting.
