101st founding anniversary of Rajendra college observed in the capital

Dhaka, (Barta24.com): The 101st founding anniversary of Government Rajendra College of  Faridpur was observed in the capital at a Chinese Restaurant in the afternoon followed by Iftar on Saturday(June 1).

The function was organized by a Face Book group titled “ Satabarshi Rajendra College” whose admin is former teacher of the college Prof. Dr. Golam Sobhany Rana Chowdhury. Dr. Rana took the initiative who was actively assisted by former VP and Bangladesh Chattra League leader of the college Ziaul Hassan Mithu.

About 67 former students who either retired from active life, some  now doing job or business, house- wives and of different categories ex- students of the college assembled at the venue to glorify the occasion.

It may be mentioned here that the college was founded in the year 1918 on June1 to cater to the needs of higher study for the students of greater Faridpur as well as the for the students of the adjoining areas.

The great congress leader of the subcontinent, a son of Faridpur, Ambica Charan Majumdar took the initiative for founding the college after meeting with the English Governor of Bengal who had paid a visit in Faridpur. The college was named after the Zamindar of Sare Sat Rashi of Sadarpur under this district who donated the whole land required for the college.

 From then the college has been pertaining education to millions of students.

The function held yesterday began with cutting a ceremonial cake engraved with ‘101th anniversary of Rajendra College.

 In the function held on Saturday  evening was addressed among others Prof. Shahjahan, also an ex student who was the oldest student among the lot, Prof. Aziz Hassan, a former teacher, VP Ziaul Hassan Mithu, ex-students MRM Abdullah, Mizanur Rahman, Abu Sayeed  and Rezaul Haider. The whole function was presided over as well as conducted by Dr. Rana Chowdhury. The ex –students and teachers just narrated their old days stories they memorized.
