DD of Consumer Rights protection directorate transferred

Dhaka Divisional office’s deputy director (DD)of National Consumers Rights protection directorate Manjur Mohammad Shahriyar has been transferred by Ministry of Public Administration allegedly on charge of his courageous step in compelling the Uttara outlet of Aarong close temporarily.

On Monday (June3) he has been transferred from his present position to Road Transport and Highways department as estate and law officer of Khulna zone.

The transfer order signed by deputy secretary of the Public Administration Mohammad Abdul Latif, said that the deputy director will have to join to his new posting by June 13 other wise he will be considered as stand released.

On Monday(June 3) on the basis of an allegation of a customer the DD Monjur Mohammad Shahryiar ordered the temporary closure of the Aarong outlet of Uttara located on Jasimuddin Road. The outlet was also slapped a fine of Taka 4.5 lakh.

The special raid was conducted by Assistant Director Md. Abdul Zabbar Mondol under the overall supervision of DD Monjur Mohammad.

The complain of the customer was such that on May 25 he bought a Punjabi at Taka 7oo/- from the Uttar outlet of Aarong while on May 31 the outlet demanded Taka 1300/- for the same Punjabi. On the basis of this complain the outlet was slapped fine.

DD Monjur Mohammad told Barta24.com that on last May 25 one customer purchased one Punjabi at Taka 713/- from the outlet on last May 25. But the same customer purchased same Punjabi at Taka 1315/- from the same outlet. The customer filed a complaint in the Consumer Rights Protection directorate.

On the basis of that complaint the directorate got the proof of the complaint by carrying a raid on in Uttara outlet of Aarong. Aarong is deceiving the customers in a novel way by increasing the price of the same thing by Taka 600/- in six days. The show room employees could not show any justified reason.

He informed that Aarong is a brand. The customers have a confidence in them for selling quality country products. Capitalizing this faith and confidence they are deceiving the customers which was against the Rights of the Consumers protection law. For that offence the outlet was fined Taka 4.5 lakh and the outlet was closed temporarily. The Aarong officials were called to the directorate office with necessary documents of increasing price. If they fail to show any justified documents the outlet will be closed permanently.

But after the temporary closure of few hours means at 8 P.M. evening the outlet of Uttara Arong was opened again in presence of DD Monjur Mohammad Shahriyar.
