Anti –Corruption Commission(ACC) has suspended its director Khondoker Enamul Basir for his alleged involvement in disclosing secret information and breach of departmental discipline.

ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumer Battacharyia has confirmed this information on Monday (june10) to the media.

He informed that on the basis of a report telecast by a private TV channel the ACC has taken this decision. In the TV report it was shown that ACC director Enamul Basir had reached an understanding with DIG of police Mizanur Rahman to give the DIG relief from the charges in exchange of Taka 40 lakh. Enamul Basir took the first installment of Taka 25 lakh kept in a marketing bag from DIG Mizanur in Ramna Park. DIG Mizanur expressed his willingness to pay the rest Taka 15 lakh within a week. Enamul demanded a gas driven car from Mizanur for his school reading son. Besides, he disclosed some important secret information of ACC to him.

Taking the TV report in cognizance ACC formed a three member high powered committee headed by ACC secretary Dilwar Bakht to investigate the allegation against Enamul Basir. The Commission took the decision of his suspension after it got the enquiry report today(Monday) afternoon.

However ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said that the charge of misconduct was brought against Enamul Basir. ACC is not embarrassed for it. It is the liability of an individual not the organization. Commission cannot give the certificate of honesty of its 874 employees.

In reply to a question ACC chairman said that the audio record of the conversation between DIG Mizanur and Enamul Basir would be sent for forensic examination for confirmation. Moreover if Enamul is found of taking bribe from DIG Mizanur cases will be filed against him.

A report was published earlier that DIG Mizanur allegedly married a woman forcibly and also for torturing the woman. At that time he was removed from the post of Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police(DMP).

In connection with this allegation ACC started investigation against the charges from May of last year. END
