The leaders of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Water Keepers, Bangladesh have demanded the recovery of the dead rivers of Dhaka.

In the press conference general secretary of BAPA Dr. Md. Abdul Matin said that we have come here with some demands. The demands included the eviction of the unauthorized establishments by the side of the rivers and khals of the city, the natural streaming of Buriganga through its recovery, and to investigate the corruption by the abettors of  unauthorized settlers around the city.

We congratulate the government for its announcement to construct a walkway around the city on the bank of the rivers and also to build up a Hateer Jheel around Buriganga.

The coordinator of Water Keepers, Bangladesh Sharif Jamal said that river is our asset. It is being polluted due to us. We are destroying our assets. Only the government alone or any organization cannot do it rather we all to fight for saving the rivers.

Pointing to the unauthorized settlers he said that those who occupy the banks of the rivers are the enemy of the country. These enemies must be brought under law and shall have to be punished.
