Dhaka: A three day Foundation training for Television journalists’ concluded on Thursday afternoon(June20) at the seminar hall of Bangladesh Press Institute.
In the concluding ceremony of this training session, Addressing the young journalists the ‘father’ of online journalism in Bangladesh and Editor in Chief of Barta24.com Alamgir Hossain said that, ‘The basic ingredient for young journalists is eagerness to learn. In present days the young journalists think that we have learned everything, but the reality is different. Those who have eagerness to learn they will improve more in this noble profession. If we do hard work then we will flourish in future.'
Alamgir Hossain advised the journalists to keep their mind free during working time. He mentioned that, ‘In our time in a limited scale there was arrangement for training of the journalists through Dhaka Reporters Unity(DRU). I think that during training every one should be free mentally. Keeping 3 to 4 assignments at a time would not bring good result in training. You must take it as a class for learning. For this reason the organizations where they are serving shall keep the trainee journalists off duty during their training.
Reminiscing the founding days of DRU Alamgir Hossain said that I was in DRU committee for three times. After Shahjahan Sardar I was elected president of DRU. The space was very small, where there was also a slum in that location. We collected lakhs of money. We told the slum dwellers that we are giving you taka 20 to 25 thousand per head you just arrange an alternative place to live. Now the DRU space has taken a big shape. The number of DRU member is now 1800.
Training is very much important for the working journalists and said that, ‘Now we hear that if any invitation of training comes from abroad for the working journalists, the editor himself avails the opportunity. But I think those who can give more time in journalism they should be sent to make them more skilled.‘
Pointing to the crisis of the mass media now prevailing in the country the Barta24.com Editor in Chief said, ’At present the mass media is facing multifarious crisis. The front line newspapers are full of ads without any substantial news. Even they are retrenching the senior journalists. They are recruiting young journalists at a very low remuneration,’ Alamgir Hossain added.
