Dhaka: Housing & Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim said that, ‘ Had there been trial of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman killing at that time then there might not happen the killings of Ziaur Rahman and Khaled Mosharraf. If according to the legal convention for murder one must die could be followed then these incidents of killings might not happen. But when the murderers saw that nothing happened for killing the Father of the Nation then the killings of Zia, Khaled Moshrraf and other political killings occurred.’
The Minister told these at Dhaka Reporters Unity(DRU) auditorium while addressing ‘Meet the Press’ function on Friday(June 21) in connection with the shifting of date of submitting the investigation report of journalists Sagar-Runi murders. The Minister was asked to reply why the date was shifted for the 65th times.
After the killings of Sagar–Runi the Minister mentioned that he himself stood in the human chain in front of National Press Club. He said that the, ‘Culture of impunity has created all these incidents of murders and killings in our country. But we should remember that none is above law. After the killings of Bangabandhu and his family, unfortunately on April 6 of 1979 a law was passed in the parliament that these killings of August 15 of 1975 cannot be tried in the court of law. A bill of indemnity was passed in the parliament in this connection. On December 31 all accused were released from the jail.’
The Minister further added that, ‘The murderers of Bangabandhu being encouraged at the dead of night killed the four national leaders in Dhaka central jail. Such incidents never happened in the world.’
The Minister said that, ‘Police could not submit the charge sheet of Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, father of Fazle Noor Tapash MP. Even police could not give the charge sheet of Minister Abdur Rob Serniabat, father of former Chief Whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah now MP. A case of murder of former president Ziaur Rahman was registered with police on June 1 of that year but police could not submit any charge sheet of that case though his party came to power for three times. If we could be strict in every field then the offenders cannot get encouragement to commit offence.’
Speaking on journalists couple Sagar-Runi murder he asked that had any body coming from the sky killed them? Definitely not. Some body amongst us had killed them. Let their be fair investigation to unearth who were involved with this killing incident. If this does not happen then the murderers would be encouraged. So I want the fair investigation of the murder otherwise the police submit final report that the accused persons could not be identified. Not only as Minister but as a citizen of this country I want this case should be solved rationally.
