Poverty will come down to nil by 2030

From Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan (Barta24.com): Planning Minister M.A.Mannan told the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that, owing to various development programs taken up by the government the level of poverty will come down to nil by 2030.

He told that,’In 2005 the rate of poverty was 40 percent and in 2010 this rate became 31.5 percent which became 21 percent in 2018 after gradual reduction of poverty. The rate of ultra poor has come down to only 11.3 percent. A few years back we found several pictures of unfed and half fed people in the streets but that scenes are not seen now,’ the Minister said.

On Monday(June24) in the third session of 11th JS, the Minister was replying to a question of Mohammad Shahid Islam MP of Laksmipur -2 constituency.

The Minister said that the government has planned to bring in the line of the developed countries of the world by reducing the poverty level to nil by 2030. He said that the government has taken various steps to change the lot of the low income group people, to ensure food for all and by reducing poverty to make it nil. Of them the reduction of poverty program at a fast rate is underway. For the advancement of state and society poverty reduction is an important indicator, he said.

He said that several matters of economic and social sectors are being given importance to reach the line of the developed world. Several new sectors which can contribute in economy are being added by increasing GDP and per capita income, the said.
